GC Services Harasses Maryland Consumer for Alleged Debt
In February of 2018, we handled a Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) case against GC Services, LP. GC Services, LP is a collection agency based in Houston, Texas. They have oftentimes not identified themselves as a collector during telephone calls attempting to collect a debt, which violates the law. Nonetheless, GC Services still has over thirty call centers spread across the country! One of our clients received frequent calls from GC Services attempting to collect an alleged debt of hers. In December 2017, one call in particular was especially threatening. The collector insisted that she continue to speak with him despite her inability to at the time, he threatened her with garnishment for not setting up a payment plan for the alleged debt immediately, as well as rushing her to provide information on her income and expenses. What if you were threatened on the spot to begin a difficult payment plan for a debt that you are unaware of?Later, an agent for GC Services told her that her account would not be garnished, and that the previous collector’s statements and actions were purposely done to coerce her into pay the debt on the spot and he was fully aware that the FDCPA prohibits that behavior. Consequently, our client was wrongly vilified and suffered mental distress from the situation. Fortunately, our firm was able to help our client, cease GC Service’s communication with our client as well as any demands that they previously had of her.If GC Services, LP is attempting to collect a debt from you, find out about your rights under the law.
